3rd DOTD (1979) Image Analysis

This scene in Dawn of The Dead (1979) is when Stephen is down in the cellar & is being chased around the dark, spooky room by a zombie. This scene builds up tension as Stephen is pretty much useless, he can’t shoot a gun properly and is often terrified. The film actually goes against the stereotypical horror movie where the good looking guy is supposed to be the hero and save the day, but instead Stephen is the weakest male character and he doesn’t survive. Romero’s auteur style means he often surprises us with characters. In Day of the Dead, one of the main heroes is a zombie called “Bub”! In terms of body horror, you can see how big the shadow is on the wall next to Stephen and the zombie, the zombie has blood all over its face which gives us the impression that Stephen is not the first person which it has attacked.
