In this scene in Dawn of The Dead (2004) we see a
news reporter reporting from what looks like somewhere such as Pakistan/Iraq as
we see the places of worship all over the background behind the reporter. At
this time 9/11 was fresh as it happened three years before so everyone was afraid
of terrorism and I think this scene connotes that. The signal on this news
report seems very poor quality and it seems like there may have been a
terrorist attack on this place as all the background is dusty and the reporter
seems very jumpy. Context theory was written about by Janet Staiger and this is
very important to understand how a horror film would be more powerful to
audiences at the time it was released.
